Gil Scott-Heron (1949) fue un poeta y cantante
estadounidense muy admirado por las generaciones posteriores, ya que sus
canciones son poesía cantada y hablada y por ello fue considerado el padre del
rap. También fue pianista de jazz y novelista. Alcanzó la fama por su
poema-canción The Revolution will not be Televised.
Scott-Heron pasó más de treinta años abriendo ojos,
mentes y almas. Además, toda su producción fue marcadamente política e
inspirada por la defensa de los derechos afroamericanos.
A modo póstumo, en 2012, se le concedió el Premio Grammy Lifetime Achievement por su carácter innovador e influyente en el mundo de las artes.
A veces será
la primera obra de poesía de Gil Scott-Heron traducida al español, en edición
bilingüe y a cargo del también poeta y traductor Ben Clark. Una antología que
se publicó en Estados Unidos, aún en vida el autor, y que incluye sus propias
notas a cada uno de los poemas. Esta edición especial irá acompañada de un
prólogo de la poeta británica Kae Tempest.

Gil Scott-Heron (1949) was an American poet and singer
much admired by later generations, as his songs are sung and spoken poetry and
for this reason he was considered the father of rap. He was also a jazz pianist
and novelist. He achieved fame for his poem-song The Revolution
will not be Televised.
Scott-Heron spent more than thirty years opening eyes,
minds and souls. Moreover, his entire output was markedly political and
inspired by the defense of African-American rights.
Posthumously, in 2012, he was awarded the Grammy
Lifetime Achievement Award for his innovative and influential character in the
world of the arts.
A veces will be the first work of poetry by Gil Scott-Heron translated into Spanish, in a bilingual edition by fellow poet and translator Ben Clark. The anthology was published in the United States, while the author was still alive, and includes his own notes to each of the poems. This special edition will be accompanied by a foreword by the British poet Kae Tempest.
